5th Annual Jazz Half Marathon & 5K

WHAT

Join us for the Fifth Annual Jazz Half Marathon & 5K to support the Cancer Program here at Children's Hospital.

WHEN

The races will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013. The Half Marathon and 5K will begin at approximately 7am.

WHERE

The Jazz Half Marathon and 5K races will start and finish near the beautiful Lafayette Square Park in the Central Business District of New Orleans.

WHY

By running the Jazz Half Marathon and 5K, you will be supporting the Cancer Program at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

The LaNasa-Greco Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital offers comprehensive and current therapies for the treatment of all types of malignancies and blood disorders including, but not limited to, leukemia, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and hemophilia, among many others.

The inpatient unit boasts 18 private rooms in a comfortable, state-of-the-art environment for patients and families. The entire unit is equipped with high efficiency particle air (HEPA) filtration. The highly advanced air handling system allows bone marrow transplants to be performed in any room and is essential to reducing the risk of infection. Located away from other inpatient areas and accessed through a positive pressure vestibule, the unit allows for the highest level of protection for patients.

Though patient care is our primary focus, Children's Hospital is an active participant in clinical and basic research of childhood cancers and blood disorders. Our physicians have access to the most modern therapies for treatment of malignancies and blood disorders in children. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is also a teaching facility for medical students, nursing students and those completing graduate and postgraduate training. The hospital plays a major role in the training of pediatric hematology/oncology fellows. Our program is part of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) Department of Pediatrics and the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center.

Our hospital has a policy of never turning away a child who needs the care we offer, regardless of the family's ability to pay.

POST RACE PARTY

After the race, you will feast on a variety of great food, beer, water, and soft drinks while dancing to the music of a top New Orleans band.

WHAT YOU GET

All participants in the Jazz Half Marathon and 5K races will receive a shirt and access to a virtual race bag filled with special offers. Half marathon finishers will also recieve medallions.

RUN FOR FREE

 Did you know that you can run our race for free? That's right, we'll refund your registration fee if you raise at least $250 for our Cancer Program.

This is a great way for you to support our patients while getting your family, friends and coworkers involved in the cause.

 We've partnered with Crowdrise, an innovative online fundraising platform, to help you maximize your fundraising efforts. AFTER you register for the race, click on the "Create Your Fundraiser" button. You'll be directed to Crowdrise to set up a personal fundraising page. Once it's complete, send it out to everyone you know through Facebook, Twitter, email, etc...

 You'll be running for free before you know it!
